Address Your Audience Interactively
Far and away the most powerful feature computer-based presentations bring to the persuasion process is the ability to create and deliver interactive presentations. Because the computer offers random access and the potential for nearly unlimited depth of information, you have the opportunity to customize your presentations on the fly.
Direct the presentation to follow the needs and interests of the audience, rather than settling for a pre-set sequence of images and information.
Interactivity makes your audience remember you and the presentation. Use interactive design techniques for the following:
- address audience priorities by targeting their specific interests,
- set the pace according to the needs of the audience,
- bridge the gap between the topic and audience background,
- integrate information from multiple sources,
- randomly navigate to any point in the presentation,
- drill down to deeper and deeper levels of interest.
The simplest form of interactive, non-linear design is the basic tree structure in which each level of information branches into multiple choices which in turn lead to still more choices, and so on.
