David Field
David Field had the job of giving engineers charisma for a Fortune 500 company in computer networking. He taught them the art of giving nearly five hundred presentations to the public.
This has led him to:
- Understand the whole presentation process
- Work out what makes a good presentation, and
- Explain things so that even engineers will understand.
He believes that the aim people have of “making better presentations” is too vague. He believes that the aim should be to hold the audience’s attention for every second you’re on-stage. You may never do this, but your attempts will improve your presentations no end.
He also believes that almost any presentation can benefit from the airplane designer’s motto — “Simplificate and add lightness.” Most presentations are too complex and require too much concentration from the audience.
David has written three books and worked on half-a-dozen more including the PowerPoint section of Office 97 quick reference. He’s taught since 1988, written since 1992, and been a tech writer since 1996.
He left England in 1987 to live in Massachusetts. He still has his accent, but as the proprietor of the local diner says, “Ya talk funny, but I can understan’ you.” Find him at david_field2000@yahoo.com.
